Movember is here:
These are our moustachioed icons
What began in Australia has now become a global phenomenon. The Movember movement to raise awareness about cancers affecting men sees countless people take on the challenge to grow a mo for one month every year.
If you’re one of the men ditching the razor in the name of a great cause, we’ve picked some of the most famous, and infamous, moustaches in pop culture to serve as your facial fur inspiration.
Tom Selleck’s Magnum P.I.
The original hirsute hearthrob, the star of cult 80s show Magnum P.I. Tom Selleck had the body hair to match the famous ‘tache. Not only did he get to tackle crime on the sun-drenched islands of Hawaii, but he did so in a Ferrari convertible. Never concerned that his face hair might go out of fashion, Tom kept the look in the decades that followed with appearances on TV shows like Friends and Boston Legal. And the moustache only adds to his air of authority as NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan on Blue Bloods.

Will Ferrell’s Ron Burgundy
You might not know this, but the hero of the smash-hit Anchorman movies is kind of a big deal. Will Ferrell’s iconic character Ron Burgundy oozes the old-school style to complement his many leather-bound books and apartment that smells of rich mahogany. The legendary newscaster prides himself on a look that includes a perfectly-groomed moustache to go with crisp suits and impeccable hair. Don’t act like you’re not impressed.

Nick Offerman’s Ron Swanson
For many fans, Ron Swanson became something of a cult character in the hit sitcom Parks and Recreation. Nick Offerman received critical acclaim for his role as the deadpan head of the fictional city of Pawnee’s Parks Department with a dislike for government. A man out of his time, Swanson’s hair and moustache were almost as straight-laced as his stare and voice.

Wagner Moura’s Pablo Escobar
It’s the TV show taking audiences by storm and the moustache is the style statement of choice for the gritty characters who inhabit the murky world of Narcos. The Netflix series follows the notorious life of Colombian criminal kingpin Pablo Escobar and has earned Golden Globe nominations for Best Actor and Best Television Series.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat
Kazakhstan’s most famous export Borat Sagdiyev was the crazy creation of Sacha Baron Cohen, and his adventures in the United States had cinemagoers rolling in the aisles in 2006. His outrageous behaviour and catchphrases were only matched by his sense of style. Borat’s unkempt hair and over-sized suit were rounded off with a massive moustache overhanging an almost maniacal grin. The movie debuted at number 1 in the box-office in the UK and USA and the screenplay was even nominated for an Academy Award.
