Newly crowned Red Bull Thre3Style king DJ Puffy tells us what bangers to play if you want to get the crowd going

A life-long dream recently came true for DJ Puffy. He beat 24 of the world’s best DJs at the World Final of the Red Bull Thre3Style in Santiago de Chile to become Red Bull Thre3Style king 2016!

His final 15-minute set, which was riddled with scratch stunts, hip-hop and soca bangers as well as a hilarious live mash-up of The Temptations’ “My Girl” and the Super Mario Bros. theme song, impressed the judges – DJ Nu-Mark, Scratch Bastid, Craze, Z-Trip and DJ Jazzy Jeff – as well as the audience. “I am an energy factory, I’m overwhelmed. I will carry the torch the best I can as the world’s best DJ for the next year”, the 25-year-old said after his victory.

Here DJ Puffy reveals his five favourite party bangers – and reveals why those five tracks won’t fail you if you want to get the crowd going.

Drake - “Hotline Bling”

“Hotline Bling” gets any crowd going as they instantly produce their best Drake moves on the floor. This track is a no brainer for me because of it’s popularity across very diverse crowds. Everyone has seen the video, everyone knows about the memes and people are always eager to get on the dancefloor and do the Drake. Both young and old.

Chaka Demus & Pliers - “Murder She Wrote”

This is a reggae/dancehall classic! This is a party starter for many crowds around the world especially if they have tropical roots or reggae knowledge.

Rupee - “Tempted to Touch”

The first Soca track to make a major impact on the international stage and fully crossover to the mainstream arena. My Bajan brother Rupee’s track “Tempted to Touch” was released in July 2004 and got as far as #39 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This song was later featured in movies worldwide and remixed by Daddy Yankee, which boosted its success even more. If I have some Caribbean, Latin, Reggaeton lovers in front of me, this is a must!

From the very first vocal note this gets everyone screaming. Another classic track known by many and remixed by every DJ in the world.  I shouldn’t have to say much about this one. It’s just golden.

Rihanna - “Work”

You can’t get the party started without Rihanna! This is another track that took 2016 by storm. Rihanna’s “Work” had everyone from my little sisters to great aunts dancing! A definite go-to for myself and many DJs to get the ladies working.
