New year, new musical talent. Here are six up-and-coming female artists we’re tipping for big things in 2016.

1. Dua Lipa

The 20-year-old from London is signed to Lana del Rey’s management company, and her husky-toned debut, New Love, was co-produced by Emile Haynie of FKA Twigs fame.

2. Alessia Cara

In less than a year, the 19-year-old R&B singer has gone from YouTube fame to a record deal with industry giant Def Jam, counting Taylor Swift among her fans.

3. Miya Folick

Considered to be one of the most talented young songwriters around, this Californian musician is influenced by Buddhist chants, which feed into her sparse, melancholic folk songs.

4. Tink

Her fabulous Winter’s Diary mix tapes gained her the attention of Timbaland who signed the 20-year-old US rapper to his label and made her one of the most talked about MCs right now.

5. Frances

Hotly tipped as the next Adele and lauded by Sam Smith, the 22-year-old singer just received a Brits Critics’ Choice Award nomination for her graceful and often piano-led pop songs.
