Blockbuster Battle: Captain America vs Iron Man
Fists are set to fly as phase 3 of Marvel’s cinematic universe kicks off with Captain America: Civil War. We’ve been promised a film that will send ripples through the Marvel universe, setting up Avengers: Infinity War and introducing a whole host of new heroes. But before all that can happen, two of Marvel’s most iconic characters will do battle, what we want to know though, is who really is the best? Good ol’ Captain America or Iron Man? Whose side will you take in the battle of the heroes?
In the blue corner we have Steve Rogers, Brooklyn born and bred and the true definition of American freedom. He’s traditional, honourable, loyal and, well, quite boring if we’re really being honest. In the red corner we have Tony Stark, the billionaire playboy, genius and philanthropist. He’s stubborn, hot-headed, arrogant, a bit of a risk-taker and extremely entertaining. Tony wins.
CAPTAIN AMERICA 0 - 1 IRON MAN
Cap’s a super soldier: super strength, super reactions, and he can’t get drunk. Is that good or bad? We’ll let you decide. Tony, like Batman, is just a rich kid/genius with time on his hands and money to burn, literally. Take away that suit and what is he?
CAPTAIN AMERICA 1 - 1 IRON MAN
Come on, do we really need to even do this one? If you had the choice between a kick-ass robotic suit and a rather chaffing tight blue number with matching “helmet”, we know what you’d go for, and it isn’t the helmet.
CAPTAIN AMERICA 1 - 2 IRON MAN
Team Cap has Ant-Man, and who doesn’t like Paul Rudd? But team Iron Man has Spider-man, and He. Looks. Awesome. “Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever a spider can, look out, here’s come a Spider-Man.” Spiiiiiiiiiider-maaaaan!
CAPTAIN AMERICA 1 - 3 IRON MAN
And the rest
We may have forgotten a few other key members in our Spidey-mania. Looking at the two teams, it all seems pretty even, Scarlet Witch v Vision, Hawkeye v Black Widow, Winter Soldier v War Machine. Falcon v Black Panther. Both teams possess big hitters, tactical masterminds and skilled fighters, so this could go either way.
CAPTAIN AMERICA 2 - 4 IRON MAN
The films so far
The first Iron Man film paved the way for the rest of the Marvel cinematic universe. Funny, exciting and action-packed in equal doses, it was a recipe for success that has been copied and cloned ever since. Unfortunately, the sequels weren’t able to meet the high standards set by the first. A poor choice of villains and a lack of respect for the comics didn’t help matters either. A gradual downward slide of 7.9, 7 and 7.3 on IMDb shows this. The opposite can be said about Captain America. The First Avenger was a solid effort, but didn’t really offer anything new, unlike Winter Soldier’s conspiracy thriller. The Russo Brothers cut down on the special effects and went for realism (or as real as you can get in a comic book superhero movie) and it worked.
CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 - 4 IRON MAN
Iron Man edges this one, but only just. Captain America started slowly but is getting better with every film. Will he come out triumphant in Captain America: Civil War? Find out when the film hits the cinemas worldwide from April 28th.
