Years and Years

Olly’s bands of 2014

Words: Ruth Morgan

UK trio Years & Years weren’t the only band to have a killer 2014. Frontman Olly Alexander looks back on the most inspiring albums of last year.

CaribouOur Love
Released: October

“I love Caribou. This album is full of love songs but they’re dance tracks too. They’re heartbreaking dance love songs and I think it’s just a beautiful record to have made. There’s so much yearning and beauty in the music, but you can move around to it too. That’s what we’re trying to do with Years & Years.”

FKA Twigs LP1
: August

“When I first heard FKA Twigs I was blown away by her. I heard her EPs before the album and they’re just as good. She’s really authentic, which is something that’s key for me in any artist I admire. She’s genuine and I’ve got massive respect for her.”

Little DragonNabuma Rubberband
Released: May

“We’re all long-time fans of Little Dragon, I just love them. This is right up there as one of their best albums, it just gets better the more you listen. If you don’t get it at first, just trust me it’s a grower, it’s very good. Every time you put it on you get something a little different to the time before.”
