As well as being famous for having celebrity parents, these ladies are making a name for themselves in their own right

Sometimes it seems like the children of many well-known stars seem were born with all the genes necessary to become a success themselves. Having a superstar mother or father is certainly not a hindrance when it comes to the pursuit of wealth and fame.

But it isn’t an absolute guarantee of they’ll grow up to follow in the parent’s footsteps. The following daughters have managed to avoid the potential pitfalls that a famous surname can bring with it and are blazing a trail all of their own.

It’s no surprise that 24-year-old Sophie Tweed-Simmons is developing a talent both on camera and on-stage.

Her father is Gene Simmons, the founder and bassist of rock icons Kiss, while her mother is Shannon Tweed, the Playboy playmate who went on to become a virtual one-woman industry in the erotic thriller genre of the 1980s and 90s. Initially she tried to resist taking after either, but after a stint at university she fell back in love with songwriting, and now uses her modelling career to promote a body positive message.

She recently appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, and at the beginning of March she secured a contract with the top agency IMG Models, who represent the likes of Bella and Gigi Hadid, Gisele and Kate Moss.

To date, Francesca Fisher-Eastwood has not quite had the breakthrough role that propels her to the heights hit by her legendary father. But she has been slowly building up her résumé, which includes roles in TV series Heroes Reborn and the forthcoming reboot of Twin Peaks. She could yet make a name for herself on the big screen too – her leading turn in campus rape revenge thriller M.F.A. has already generated quite a buzz at this year’s South By Southwest festival in the US.

She may be Elvis’s granddaughter, but Riley Keough made the right choice when she chose to follow in the footsteps of her actress grandmother Priscilla Presley instead. After debuting in the Kristen Stewart-led drama The Runaways in 2010, Keough has gone on to find substantial roles in Mad Max: Fury Road and the Steven Soderbergh-produced TV series The Girlfriend Experience. She will reunite with Soderbergh later this year for Logan Lucky, his return to feature film, as well as star alongside Rooney Mara and Robert Redford in forthcoming Netflix show The Discovery and appear with Uma Thurman and Matt Dillon in The House That Jack Built, the latest work from controversial Danish director Lars von Trier.
