SPOILER ALERT - we’ve looked into the comic folklore, analysed the press conferences and dug deep into the forums to find out who really did die at the end of season 6

—SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER —

Season 6 of The Walking Dead ended on one of the biggest – and most frustrating – cliffhangers in recent TV history. Who is going to be saying hello to Lucille? Is Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), leader of The Saviors, really going to kill one of the shows most-loved characters? And which one?? WE NEED ANSWERS!

In order to get those answers, we’ve pulled off one or *cough* seven coffee-fuelled all-nighters going through all manner of possibilities, and have reduced the list down to 5 people who have good reason to fear the bat. But which one of them will it really be? We’ve listed the reasons for and against below, so read on if you dare.

—SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER —

1. Maggie (Lauren Cohan)

Why she dies:

Maggie is a strong woman, and a fighter to boot. She’s also pregnant with Glenn’s child. If Negan kills Maggie then it proves just how bad he really is and set the season up to be the most brutal so far. In addition to this, Lauren hardly posted any set photos on Instagram during the shoot and it was reported that she was in other locations for a lot of the time.

Why she lives:

She survives the foray with Negan and his troops in the comics. Maggie also goes on to play a very important role in the Hilltop Community.

2. Glenn (Steven Yeun)

Why he dies:

If you’ve read the comics, then you’ll know why.

Why he lives:

It seemed as if Glenn’s time on this earth was up half way through season 6, before things took another turn. Killing him off now wouldn’t have as much of an impact as it will have with other characters.

3. Michonne (Danai Gurira)

Why she dies:

All of Rick’s girlfriends have died so far.

Why she lives:

Michonne is one of the most popular characters in the show right now, and it would make a change for one of Rick’s girlfriends to actually survive for one. We’d also miss her samurai sword far too much.

4. Abraham (Michael Cudlitz)

Why he dies:

He’s already long gone in the comics. He also broke up with Rosita, and we all know what bad karma can do.

Why he lives:

Abraham is the man for the jokes. The show would have a massive void to fill if he bites the dust. And a show like this needs a touch of humour every now and then between the blood, gore and tears.

5. Daryl (Norman Reedus)

Why he dies:

Fans would be in a state of shock if a characters as popular as Daryl were to die, and it would really get the ball rolling for season 7. And you can guarantee it would be talked about for weeks. Norman Reedus has also been given his own show on AMC called Ride with Norman Reedus. Proof that he’s off to pastures new?

Why he lives:

The very same reason as above. He’s just too well loved. Does the studio really want to annoy such a big fan base and a community that may well abandon the show if he’s not in it? The answer is no.

Bonus info:
Rick (Andrew Lincoln), Glenn (Steven Yeun), Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) were present at the recent San Diego Comic Con. During an interview, they were asked by cult director and comic book author Kevin Smith about the end of season 6 and who really is going to die. Jeffrey Dean Morgan replied by saying that is none of the actors present on stage. Is that a major hint or just misdirection? You can never really be sure with shows like TWD and GOT

Season 7 of the The Walking Dead starts on October 23rd.
