The Baxter Inn – Sydney

Address: Regent Singapore, 1 Cuscaden Road, Singapore

The lobby of the Regent Hotel gives visitors their first impression of what awaits. The bar stores 105 of its own oak barrels, and also boasts a separate “ingredients space” - the dream of every bartender - where on Sundays, guests are invited to do-it-yourself Bloody Mary classes. Whether sitting in one of the wide armchairs or on a stool at the bar, you’ll immediately soak up the unique atmosphere in the Manhattan.

Speciality: The name says it all. A bartender will roll an antique cart to your seat and mix you your own Manhattan from a bottle of Bomberger’s Distillery single barrel rye whiskey, Mancino Vermouth and homemade cherry brandy.

The Clumsies - Athens

Address: Praxitelous 30, Athens, Greece

New York and London dominate the top ten list of bars but as the only “outsider,” Greece’s The Clumsies claims eighth place. The bar offers everything from coffee and pastries to light meals and fancy evening cocktails. In keeping with the changing time of the day, an ambience of light-filled relaxation in the morning transforms to a colourful party zone in the evening.

Speciality: The “El Draque” is a mojito which is served with a paste of mint and green apple. The drinker is obliged to smear the paste on their teeth with a toothbrush before drinking.

American Bar – London

Address: The Savoy, The Strand, London, England

Second place in the list - and therefore the best in Europe - is the American Bar in London. The famous cocktail menu lists 24 drinks, thematically divided into the districts of the city. Each beverage is named after a famous place as an ode to the English capital.

Speciality: The most popular drink is the “Abbey Road,” named after the famous recording studio. The ingredients are Star of Bombay Gin, Martini Rubino, lemon, Yuzu juice, champagne syrup and citrus dust.

The Dead Rabbit - New York

Address: 30 Water Street, New York, USA

For the first time, New York’s The Dead Rabbit has reached the top of the rankings. It’s the perfect blend of rough pub (ground floor) and the nobler “Cocktail Cathedral” in an Irish-American style which makes this place so special. The numerous references to Water Street’s boozy past prove a big hit with patrons. And of course, the cocktails - presented in a graphic novel menu - are popular beyond any doubt.

Speciality: Supposedly, the best Guinness in the Big Apple runs from The Dead Rabbit’s taps. And every Wednesday, the bar bursts at the seams when pianist Terry Waldo is at his best.
