Get your game on: next level arcade bars in London
A pop-up bar recently opened in Washington D.C. based on the Super Mario Brothers has proven so popular that it can take up to two hours for patrons to get in. Combining computer games and a social drink is clearly a winner but what about places where you can actually play?
Some pubs might boast the odd casino game or pin-ball machine but these five haunts in London are a gamer’s dream with their array of old-school arcades and other favourites.

Four Quarters in Peckham has proven so successful that they’ve opened a second bar in Hackney Wick. The bar promises craft beers, arcade games, and fun times, and even has a cocktail bar and dancefloor downstairs. Games include Asteroids, Star Wars, Defender, Time Crisis, and Point Blank with tables featuring the classic Invaders, and pin ball machines. The bar hosts regular themed nights and events.
Going since 2010, Loading have two bars in Stratford and Dalston which according to their Facebook page, “help the twin causes of video games and booze”. Loading boasts over 50 board games, classic games like Mario Kart on the Super Nintendo and the latest releases on Xbox One, PS4 on their flatscreen HD TVs.
The Old Schoolyard
This establishment at London bridge describes itself as a bar and playground. The cocktail bar plays old school hits, has a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game as well as foosball and Nintendo Wii and other consoles. The bar also has private Karaoke rooms.
Located on Caledonian Road near King’s Cross, Meltdown is one of a chain of international bars dedicated to gaming and eSports. Instead of football games, patrons watch gamers battle it out in favourites like League of Legends on big screens. It also has its own free-to-play PCs and consoles and hosts regular tournaments. With themed cocktails, and enthusiastic bar staff, it’s a gamer’s heaven open until 1.30am at weekends.
Two Bit is located in the basement of Brewdog in trendy Shoreditch and describes itself as “an all-American craft beer, whiskey and underground gaming bar.” Along with an eclectic collection of drinks, the bar features an array of retro coin-ops and arcades. Pinball machines include Metallica, Getaway, Rolling Stones, Pirates of the Caribbean and Dirty Harry while classic arcades include Space Invaders.
