Ronaldo to superman, funny dressing room momentsIt’s supposed to be the inner sanctum for football teams but with selfie sticks now part of every player’s match essentials, what happens in the dressing room rarely stays there
When Real Madrid defeated fierce rivals Barcelona in El Clasico, Cristiano Ronaldo could barely keep his clothes on. In fact he didn’t. The Portuguese star stripped to his underwear for a post-match celebratory snap. He’s among the latest random pictures to emerge from football changing rooms.
How quickly did he get his clothes off? Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t shy about showing his chiselled physique on the pitch so it wasn’t that surprising to see him in only his pants when cameras caught Real Madrid’s celebrations at the Nou Camp. Especially as he has his own underwear fashion label.
According to a recent newspaper report Arsenal players top the league when it comes to posting pictures of themselves on Instagram, and it’s something that raises the ire of pundit Roy Keane.
In his usual calm and measured comments, he said: “Arsenal have some really good players - some good characters who roll their sleeves up, but they also have one or two players who are more interested in selfies and six-packs.”
A selfie, arm-in-arm with the German Chancellor is probably only possible at a World Cup or European Championship. After a 4-0 win against Portugal at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Lukas Podolski took advantage of the situation to grab a snap with Angela Merkel. More Merkel moments would follow when Germany claimed the title.
“I’m 60 and I’m going to France.” Republic of Ireland kitman Dick Redmond had a unique way of celebrating the Boys in Green’s qualification to Euro 2016. Heroics on the pitch, and even more off it.
Danish international Theresa Nielsen posted this picture of teammate Nanna Christensen from the dressing room after her side Brondby claimed a league and cup double but it wasn’t without controversy. The photo received something of a media backlash but not before going viral.
Another from the Real Madrid album. Like teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, James Rodriguez has his own range of underwear but only some Photoshop skills protected the Colombian’s modesty here.
It was a whole new ball game for the great Diego Maradona when he visited the Argentina rugby team’s dressing room during the World Cup in 2015. It looks like his skills haven’t disappeared even with an oval ball and at least in rugby, handling is allowed.
