Revved Up

Some rallies are loved, some strike fear into the hearts of drivers, and some are just downright fun.

While petrol heads the world over would give anything to test themselves in a professional rally car, World Rally Championship newcomer Elfyn Evans gets to do it 13 times a year. These are the rallies that really get the 25-year-old Welshman revved up.

Rally Finland

“Finland is a surreal experience. It’s hard, but having the chance to do it in a World Rally car with the size of the jumps is amazing, there’s nowhere else in the world you can experience that. You get a lot of spectacular crashes in Finland – it’s all such high speed that if you get it a little bit wrong, it goes very wrong. But I love a challenge.”

Rally GB

“The stages of Rally GB still hold something special for me, I really enjoy driving there.  This year particularly stands out as it starts five miles away from my family home. I can’t wait.”

Rally Portugal

“This is a rally I hated when I drove it for the first time in 2012. But when I went back there last year I was surprised that I really enjoyed myself, and I felt that again this year even though I crashed out pretty heavily. The stages are similar to Finland in that they’re really fast and technical, there’s a lot happening, but I find that sort of test really enjoyable.”

Ulster Rally

“I did this rally as part of the British Championship, and in terms of enjoyment it’s right up there. It’s bumpy tarmac, very technical, always a bit dodgy but lots of fun if you’re brave enough to conquer it. I’d love it if we could have a WRC stage there at some point.”
