Proud Cape Flats B-Boy Toufeeq shares his six tips for B-boying success, all of them learned the hard way during his meteoric rise through South Africa’s breakdance ranks.

1.    Believe in yourself

”Take the attitude that nothing is impossible. If you tell yourself you can’t do something, you never will.”

2.    Seek advice

”Don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you respect what another B-boy is doing, ask him to teach you. B-boys are mostly nice guys, and the worst thing that can happen is he will say no.”

3.    Be serious

”If you think of B-boying as a hobby, you will not succeed. You have to live it.”

4. Find youself

”Study what other dancers are doing but also let your own imagination lead you. You will need your own style if you want to stand out, and that can only come from your own imagination.”

5. Get a life

”Find stability in your life. If you’re not lucky enough to come from a stable family, choose stable and supportive friends. Drugs and B-boying don’t mix.”

6. See the World

”Travel. Even if that means going to the end of the bus route, get out and see as much of the world as you can. If your world is limited, your dancing will be limited.”
