Delhi-based electro producer Hashback Hashish reveals the favourite corners of his hometown

With more than 10 years experience in the music industry, Ashish Sachan aka Hashback Hashish, is at the forefront of India’s growing electronic scene. His latest EP, Zone, sees the artist take a step back into minimalism, creating a dynamic sphere of glitchy electronica merged with pulsating rhythms and piercing basslines.

His music takes influences from around the world without forgetting about where he comes from. Here, the talented mucisian talks to The Red Bulletin about his favourite corners of Delhi and how to get the most out of a visit.

THE RED BULLETIN: Where is the best place to go for breakfast in Delhi?

HASHBACK HASHISH: The Lodhi hotel, for sure. The best breakfast food in Delhi, and only place in Delhi that does good sushi for brunch. If I’m not eating there, I’m probably at home.

What should people avoid in your city …

The road. The state of driving in New Delhi, like the rest of India, is terrible. Traffic is unorganized; people honk their horns just for the sake of it. It’s a mess. Avoid driving in New Delhi at all costs. I like to walk everywhere instead. That’s one of the bad things about Delhi: the driving. That and pick pockets.

Happy filter on.

A fun fact about your city not many people know…

One of the reasons I’m proud to be from Delhi is that the public transport runs on environmentally-friendly compressed natural gas.

It’s 5 am and you want to party more. Where do you go?

At the moment, it’s a friend’s place.  I like to surround myself with people I know. Out on the town though, it’s a different story. Modi passed a bill allowing 24/7 operating hours which is yet to be implemented, so let’s see.

If you’re into music, where should we be hanging out to get our vinyl fix?

Old Delhi. I don’t have a record player myself, but I’m reliably informed it’s the place to be if you’re after LPs. A friend of mine often visits the Shah Music Centre, which has been run by the same family for three whole generations now.

You can still buy old gramophones there. But they only really sell old Bollywood records, so I guess that’s why people come to New Delhi – to experience electro music and DJs. I think people are after something new, and that is why they come to New Delhi.

What’s the city’s best club?

Errrmm…  I haven’t really been clubbing in New Delhi for a while. Can I get back to you on that one?
