Hangover

Bye bye blackout: This new app shows you where you were last night

Dude, where’s my car? You’ll never need to ask questions like this again thanks to Bimble

We’ve all been there. You wake up with a hangover and attempt to recap events of the night before, often with zero hope of success!

Where did I actually spend all my money? What’s that stamp on my hand? Where did this phone number come from? Overdoing the celebrations the previous night can lead to a very hazy following morning (or afternoon).

Those days of desperately searching for answers are (almost) over though thanks to a brand new app called Bimble that allows you to find out where you were the night before, regardless of how little you can remember.

It works essentially like a jogging app, combining with your smartphone’s GPS to track the routes and locations and summarise where you were over the course of an evening.

The app (thankfully) doesn’t make a complete log of the night, so those intense and very deep conversations with friends and dodgy sing-alongs are not recorded. You’ll still have to rely on unexpected snapshots or the dreaded “Facebook tag” for those embarrassing (and foggy) moments.

Bimble was developed German students Christoper Lass, Daniel Hariri and Simon Klinkertz and is still very much in the developmental stage, but there are already plans for a lot more upgrades. Can’t your friends for example? Never fear, in the future the app will allow you to find them by linking your account to theirs, and soon they will even be live tracking your boozy trips.

And “Bimble” is even smarter than you might think at first glance. “Based on your step pattern, the app can determine how drunk a person is,” co-inventor Christopher Lass told TZ.

“The more alcohol in your system, the more you stagger. The accelerometers in your phone can calculate exactly what level the party is at.” Incidentally, the app can also tell the difference between stumbling from point A to point B and carefully choreographed dance moves.

The app has been on the market since January 2016 and is already proving popular as a cool party gag that provides a few laughs the next morning, not just for those who really can’t remember anything.  A night without a blackout is always much more fun though, which is why we always preach: “Always drink responsibly.”
