These infinity pools will blow your mind
While infinity pools seem like a modern phenomenon, they’re actually believed to have first been created in France in the early 1400s. Even so, it’s only recently they’ve become a staple of five-star hotels. Offering picture-postcard ocean views and a luxury swimming environment, here are five of the best around.
Taj Exotica Resort & Spa – Maldives
Set on a landscaped private island, the high-end Taj Exotica Resort & Spa boasts luxurious villas with ocean views. Guests staying in the Rehendi Presidential Suite can swim laps in the Maldivian sunshine and enjoy uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean in their personal infinity pool – like something out of a James Bond film.
Raffles Praslin – Seychelles
Guests to Raffles Praslin are spoilt for choice when it comes to swimming, as it has two 45-metre outdoor infinity pools on two floors just a few minutes away from the beach. Surrounded by tropical jungle, one of the pools has 360° views of the exotic greenery of the forest, while the other has vistas of the magnificent Indian Ocean.
The Residence – Zanzibar
The size of a golf course (well, a 9-hole anyway), The Residence is a secluded hideaway fringed by a pristine mile-long golden sand beach. It has 66 elegant villas and a visually stunning centrepiece, the Beachfront Infinity Pool, which features walls made of glass and offers endless panoramas of the azure blue sea.
Four Seasons Resort Maui – Wailea, Hawaii
Shielded by palm trees and appearing to merge into the ocean, Four Seasons Resort Maui’s infinity pool will leave you lost for words. You’ll be able to take in views of the neighbouring island Lanai, as well as Kahoolawe – Hawaii’s smallest volcanic island. It’s so irresistibly tranquil, you’ll almost be kept away from Wailea Beach, which is a 9-minute walk away, and the nearby Wailea Golf Club.
Rayavadee – Thailand
Nestled in the heart of the stunning Phranang Peninsula on the edge of Krabi Marine National Park, Rayavadee is set against a backdrop of tropical gardens and coconut groves. As well as offering wonderful ocean views, its delicately curved lagoon-style infinity pool allows guests to stretch out and swim for hours on end. This is probably where Michael Phelps goes on holiday…
