IMDb

The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) is the cinematic equivalent of the Bible, and offers the world’s largest collection of information about all things movie and television related. As well as offering information about the movies themselves, over 4 million celebrities, actors, directors and crew members are featured, so you can find out just what you’ve seen that familiar film star perform in before. You can also rate your favourite films and shows, watch trailers and impress your mates at the pub with all kinds of trivia.

Cannot wait for this to release next year!! #monstersuniversity #totalawesomeness love the #imdbapp 😃😄👌👍

RunPee

If you regularly go to the cinema and stock up on a vat of slush and a bucket of popcorn, it’s highly likely you’ll find yourself needing a comfort break about halfway through the movie.

When that happens, you have two options:

  1. sit it out, wriggling around on your seat
  2. head to the toilet in the full knowledge you may miss a crucial scene

This is where the RunPee app comes in. If you’re watching a film, it’ll vibrate at a lull in the story, giving you a heads up to you know it’s ok to rush out of the theatre and do your business. You’ll never have to miss a vital cinematic moment again!

Movies by Flixster

If you’re looking for listings, reviews, or even trailers, Movies by Flixster has got you covered by offering a little bit of everything. You’ll be able to see what’s being shown at your local cinema, check out what the film’s Rotten Tomatoes rating is, and read reviews from critics and users alike. The app is also paired with Netflix, so you’ll be able to find out which films are available to stream on the platform, with the chance to add those that are directly to your watchlist.

Letterboxd

If you’re a cinephile, Letterboxd is an essential app to add to your collection. It’s been described as “Facebook for films”, as it’s a social networking app connecting movie lovers across the world. Users can rate and review movies, create all sorts of film lists and also keep a “watch diary” to note down each time they see a new film. Unfortunately for Android users, it’s only available on iOS at the moment.
