Ewan McGregor’s Wise ChoicesThe Scotsman proves his force is strong as he comes full circle to star in T2: trainspotting
“Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career,” said Ewan McGregor, in voiceover, in the explosive first moments of Trainspotting. His junkie character, Renton, was mocking those choices, but the Scottish actor himself took the words to heart and ran with them.
Three years after Trainspotting, in 1999, he starred in Star Wars Episode I as the young Obi-Wan Kenobi and thus became nerd-world-famous forever. He’s since done musicals, comedy, thrillers, drama, action movies and rom-coms.
Since 2004, he has been an ambassador for Unicef and, after the first of two globetrotting motorbike journeys he has made to visit the children’s charity’s projects (and make TV documentaries), he and his wife adopted a young Mongolian girl. Now aged 45, he’s back where it all kicked off, in the Trainspotting sequel. Choosing life, it seems, is the way to go.
