Avengers: Age of Ultron is gearing up to take the big screen by storm and it looks set to be the year’s biggest blockbuster film. The Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will join forces once again to take on their most powerful enemy to date, and they may well end up breaking a few records along the way as well.
1. Bigger and better
The Avengers made over $1.5 billion globally at the box office in 2012 and is the 3rd highest grossing film of all time. Marvel and Disney have upped the budget for this sequel, and judging by the trailers they have spared no expense. The teasers have already broken records, and this looks likely to convert into cinema tickets. Expect more action, more heroes, and more story in typical Joss Whedon style.
Ultron is the big bad robot who wants to destroy the world. He looks like a badass, is voiced by the sweet tones of James Spader and he doesn’t like humanity all that much. The Avengers are going to have their work cut out for them if they are going to stop him for good.
Forget Mayweather vs. Pacquiao, this is going to be the fight of the year. Fan boys will finally get what they have been eagerly waiting for as Tony Stark dons the Hulkbuster suit and goes toe-to-toe against Hulk. This is going to be an epic battle.
4. Scarlett Johansson
Her character Black Widow has gone from a bit-part player in Iron Man 2 to a fully-fledged member of the team, and we’re very thankful for that. Just look at the effect she has on the Hulk.
5. Joss Whedon
The director has the ability to turn almost everything he touches into gold. Keeping Joss on for the sequel was essential to ensure the series went in the right direction. His ability to create witty dialogue and mix it with intense drama and action proved to be one of the key elements in The Avengers, and there is no reason why the sequel should be any different.
6. The Twins
Age of Ultron will give us our first look at Pietro and Wanda Maximoff, aka Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen. Should you be excited about seeing these two? Hell yes! Quicksilver is, as the name reveals, super fast, while Scarlet Witch can alter reality. A sibling duo to be reckoned with.
The name Quicksilver sound familiar? He had a cameo in last year’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, helping Magneto out of a tough spot. Played by Evan Peters, he was written into that film to get one up on Marvel due to rights complications. He will be given a much more prominent role in the new Avengers, and the big question we all want answered is – will Marvel’s version be better than 20th Century Fox’s?
We saw a glimpse of Vision at the end of the second trailer. If you don’t know who he is or why you should be excited, he is an android created by Ultron to wreak havoc on the Avengers. He’s able to control his density and make himself intangible, meaning he can fly through walls and make himself almost indestructible. Which is pretty damn cool if you ask us. We haven’t seen much of him so far and where his story will go is also unknown, but there is a reason why Marvel has kept this one secret. Bring on Vision!
8. Captain America vs. Iron Man
Although these two are on the same team for now, their friendship looks set to be stretched in Avengers: Age of Ultron, which will lead on to 2016’s ominously titled Captain America: Civil War, as the two find themselves on differing sides of an act designed to regulate superhuman activity. How will the tension between the two develop in Age of Ultron? We can’t wait to find out!
9. The Future
While Ant-man will officially be the end of Phase 2, Avengers: Age of Ultron will set the cogs in motion for even bigger things in the future with a whole host of new films, TV series and much more in Phase 3. You better start brushing up on your comic book history, because there is a lot more coming.
10. It’s the Avengers!
It’s the Avengers: Age of Ultron, and it is going to kick-ass. Avengers Assemble!
