Wolverine’s greatest fights ever

To commemorate Hugh Jackman’s last hurrah as Logan, here are the X-Man’s finest melees.

In Logan, Wolverine (played by Hugh Jackman) has to face Boyd Holbrook’s Donald Pierce and his Reavers as well as many other challenges in what looks set to be Jackman’s final outing as the adamantium clawed anti-hero. To mark his last fight, we’ve looked at the scraps Wolverine has been in over the years, and chose the following six as his greatest fights ever. Read on below to find out why.

  • Wolverine vs. The Hulk
  • Wolverine vs. Mr Spock
  • Wolverine vs. Aunt May
  • Wolverine vs. The Punisher
  • Wolverine vs. Captain America
  • Wolverine vs. Stryker’s Henchmen

Logan is in cinemas worldwide from March 1.

The Hulk (The Incredible Hulk #340, 1988)

Two of Marvel’s angriest titans clash in a battle that counts among the greatest in both characters’ history. Insults are thrown, blood is spilled, and while the fight is eventually broken up, it’s a visceral superhero smackdown.

Mr. Spock (Star Trek/X-Men, 1996)

Yes, you read that right. In an otherwise forgettable one-off comic where the X-Men and Star Trek universes cross paths, Wolverine charges at our favorite Vulcan. It’s not exactly an epic battle, however, as Spock takes down his opponent with a swift Vulcan nerve pinch.

Aunt May (The Amazing Spider-Man #520, 2005)

Technically not a fight, but a surprising confrontation, if only because of who comes out on top. The grizzly Canadian gets a scolding from Spider-Man’s aunt for smoking in the kitchen of Avengers Tower. When May puts out his trademark cigar in his drink, Wolverine is egged on by Luke Cage but ends up leaving, shirtless, to buy some doughnuts.

Aunt May VS Wolverine

That went exactly how I called it. Even Wolverine had the good sense not to tussle with an old woman. From - Amazing Spider-man Vol. 1 #520

THE PUNISHER (Punisher #16/ #1, 2001)

Perhaps the most extreme battle on this list, Frank Castle (aka The Punisher) shoots Logan in a very sensitive area before running him over with a steamroller. As you would expect from fighting someone with enhanced healing capabilities, Wolverine recovers and eventually gets brutal revenge.

CAPTAIN AMERICA (Wolverine: Origins #4, 2006)

Another fight that’s simply too star-studded not to be included. Wolverine is on the war path, eventually coming across Marvel’s patriotic super-soldier. The pair exchange violent injuries, with adamantium claws sparking off the iconic vibranium shield. This one ends up in a heated draw, but few comic book fans could resist seeing this showdown.

STRYKER’S HENCHMEN (X-Men 2, 2003)

Probably the closest Jackman’s Wolverine has gotten to the rage of his comic book equivalent so far. The mutant-hating William Stryker’s SWAT team descends on the unarmed X-Men Mansion, only for Wolverine to dispatch the villains with a blood-curdling roar. While bloodless and eventually thwarted by a wall of ice, it’s a taster of the adult-friendly carnage we can expect from Wolvey in Logan.
