Adam Trent’s career began with a stutter—a fierce, uncontrollable one that only disappeared when he was performing in front of people. So he decided to do a lot more of that. A street magician at the age of 10, he was renting out high school auditoriums to perform his show in his teens. Cruise ships and college tours followed before his big break on a Broadway show. We talked to Trent about his new show on Red Bull TV, the humbling—and frequently hilarious—path to the top of his profession, and what magic taught him about controlling his audience.
