What was your best selfie? At the beach or the club with your friends? Now take them a couple of hundred feet up and you might raise a smile from Angela Nikolau. The mere sight of her pics on Instagram is enough to make users dizzy. The Russian beauty takes most of her images on skyscrapers or bridges.
Hand-holding at 600 metres
Angela is often accompanied on her adventures by her boyfriend Ivan, who obviously likes things just as breezy. He has been climbing for a very long time and has an impressive, if frightening, Instagram profile to prove it. The daredevil pair are sometimes even sponsored by a travel agency. The two have already scaled the famous Sagrada Família in Barcelona, the Shanghai Tower and - very romantic - the Eiffel Tower in Paris. These thrillseekers have also climbed what has been dubbed the highest construction site in the world, the Goldin Finance 117 skyscraper (yes, exactly: 117 floors, 640 metres high) in China.

Head for heights
According to an interview with Sputnik magazine, Angela, who has been practising gymnastics since an early age, first started climbing for fun without a mobile phone or even a camera. Since then she has met like-minded people who take photos and document her hair-raising adventures and has gathered a following of over 300,000 Instagram users.
“There was fear before but now I am accustomed to it and there is no fear,” she explained. Although, while climbing the Goldin Finance 117, she said at one point she needed to take a few minutes to get used to the extreme altitude - something you can’t see in the pictures of course.
So do her family know of this dangerous hobby and find it okay? “For my grandparents, I must tell them that this is all Photoshop, so they don’t worry so much,” Angela admitted.
Roofing is a dangerous trend in which more and more young people climb to dizzying levels. They often have to sneak past security cameras or guards because the whole thing is, of course, illegal - even if the resulting selfies are fascinating. But it seems no one can reach the heights of these pictures.
