Germany VS the USA
Rico Freimuth, 28, is Germany’s best decathlete. His rival Ashton Eaton set the world record in Beijing in 2015 as he defended his gold medal at IAAF World Championships.
Can Freimuth beat him at the Olympics 2016 in Rio? We will find out soon. To begin with, The Red Bulletin tested them in 10 different disciplines:
- Decathlon personal best
- World championship prize money
- First medal
- Medals in total
- Sporting family
- Social media
- Higher Education
Freimuth: 27 years
Eaton: 23 years
Both sportsmen are 28, but Eaton won his first major international medal at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, four years earlier than Freimuth.
MEDALS IN TOTAL
Freimuth: 1 bronze
Eaton: 6 gold, 1 silver
Eaton is the hot favourite in Rio. He has had seven medals – Olympic, World Championship or World Indoor Championship – draped around his neck; Freimuth has had just one.
